Hema Malini returns to direction after a sabbatical, almost twenty years after she made DIL AASHNA HAI [1992], and so does her daughter Esha, whose last release hit the screens three years ago. But the veteran actress/film-maker takes an emotional trip yet again. In DIL AASHNA HAI, it was all about a girl wanting to know who her mother was. In TELL ME O KKHUDA, the gender is changed; the protagonist goes in search of her biological father. It’s her passionate quest for her roots, the search for her father that makes her travel to different destinations — Rajasthan, Turkey and Goa.


Well, this isn’t an innovative concept, frankly. Of course, DIL AASHNA HAI had a similar theme, but prior to that, Yash Chopra incorporated a similar sub-plot in KABHI KABHIE. But, if one were to be specific, TELL ME O KKHUDA inadvertently bears a striking resemblance to the Meryl Streep starrer MAMMA MIA!. Generally, in subjects such as these, the focus is on, you guessed it right, the drama and also the emotional quotient. It boils down to how one connects with the plot and how proficiently can the protagonist get into the shoes.

Hema Malini gets it right as far as the plot is concerned and there’s no denying that Esha pitches in a sincere, heartwarming performance, but TELL ME O KKHUDA suffers for that vital reason that’s the lifeline of every film — the screenplay isn’t convincing enough. The three stories, not connected with each other, hold your interest intermittently, in bits and spurts. But it’s the culmination to the tale that spoils the effort. Things go awry at this stage. What was the need for a formulaic and filmy end?

Tanya [Esha Deol] is brought up in the secure and content environment of a loving family [Farooque Shaikh, Deepti Naval], but decides to chart an unpredictable course with the intention of tracing her biological parents. The intense search for her roots, which Tanya takes up passionately and with headstrong determination, takes her around the globe. She meets the three men one by one — Abhay [Vinod Khanna], a royal by birth who is revered for integrity; Altaf [Rishi Kapoor], a sophisticated Indian settled in Turkey; Anthony [Dharmendra], a gangster. Tanya has to find the answers she’s looking for.

Of the three stories, the one featuring Rishi Kapoor manages to hold your interest. That’s because it comes across as real. The story featuring Vinod Khanna gets into an altogether different track and even the camel race that’s featured in this episode, which should’ve been a highpoint, fails to excite you. And the one featuring Dharmendra is the weakest of the lot. Frankly, the sequences that feature the real-life father and daughter, Dharmendra and Esha, are electrifying, but the episode featuring the father’s past [Hema Malini] is so so disappointing. The emotional connect is missing here. Like I pointed out earlier, even the finale is an absolute letdown.

Hema Malini has handled a few emotional moments well, but the screenplay is far from convincing, disjointed and least engaging, which takes the film down. There’s not much hope for music here, yet Pritam comes up with two decent tracks — ‘Mera Mann’ and ‘Esha’. The latter comes too late in the narrative, though. The cinematography is consistent. The portions in Turkey are luminously filmed.

Esha Deol delivers a mature performance. Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor are accomplished actors all and they stand out in their respective parts. Farooque Shaikh is equally good. Deepti Naval is effective. Arjan Bajwa doesn’t get scope, though Chandan Roy Sanyal is a complete livewire, a spontaneous actor. Sudhanshu Pandey is strictly okay, while Madhoo does well. The actress playing the part of Rishi Kapoor’s wife does a fine job. Johny Lever provides some genuine laughs. Hema Malini appears towards the end of the film. She doesn’t impress this time!

On the whole, TELL ME O KKHUDA has an erratic script, which works in bits and spurts. That, honestly, isn’t enough!

Adah Sharma: People will get to see new Adah with HHRCK

The first poster of Adah Sharma's much talked about first ever comedy film HUM HAI RAAHI CAR KE is out. The vibrant, colourful poster features Adah Sharma and newbie Dev Goel in it. As evident from the poster, it seems Adah and Dev share quite cool chemistry in the film.


"Obviously it has to be as we play chaddi buddies in the film. Thankfully our chemistry looks quite natural and comfortable and not the forced one. The chemistry of two intimate people should come naturally without showing up, it should be believable. With people already liking our pairing in the poster, I hope they'll like us in the film too. Moreover, audience will get to see me in a new light as I am seen laughing throughout film unlike my earlier films where I was all serious." says Adah Sharma.

Adah exudes good on-screen chemistry with Dev Goel, who is absolute newcomer. We wonder how Adah managed to create that spark in their chemistry when she didn't even know Dev. But for Adah it all lies in the script of the film and when two good actors come together their chemistry is apparent. "The chemistry is in the script, actors just perform it. And when two good actors come together they produce amazing chemistry. I didn't know Dev at all but as we started with the workshop and all we instantly hit it off and got along well," said the pretty actress.

Praising her co-star Dev, Adah says, "Dev is a very chilled out and down-to earth person. He may be a newcomer in the industry but he is a talent to watch out for. He's written the script of the film."

'Munni' Malaika turns into Anarkali

became a hot brand in item number category. Now after one year of enjoying the "Munni" status, the sizzling beauty will be seen in a new avatar as "Anarkali"...

Earlier we had informed you about Malaika being signed on as Housefull 2's item gal, latest update is that the special number is called "Anarkali Disco Chali". The song, choreographed by Farah Khan, will have Malaika in six different looks - from desi to western. "Malaika looks like a million bucks in this new song. She's a mixture of Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce," revealed Farah to sources who had choreographed Malaika in "Munni".

Interestingly the actress will also do a cameo in 'Housefull 2' besides the song. For, director Sajid Khan considers Malaika to be a lucky charm as she was part of his directorial debut 'Heyy Babyy' and then 'Housefull'. Supporting similar views, producer Sajid Khan added to say that Malaika also adds a touch of class and grace to any item song and so they couldn't think of anyone else other than Munni.

Indeed! So folks, make way for new Munni, er, we mean, Anarkali.....!

'Ooh La La' turns into a rage

"Ooh La La" from 'The Dirty Picture' has just hit the screen and predictably created an instant frenzy among those who have seen it. Based on a musical style which was a genre in itself during the 80s' era of 'Tohfa', 'Himmatwala', 'Justice Chaudhary', and many more, the track may have succeeded in striking a chord with audience now but for Naseeruddin Shah it was a dream come true to be dancing to a 'fen-tasy' song like this. "I had to really prepare myself to tell Naseer about this song called 'Ooh La La' that he had to do alongside Vidya with all the 'matkas', 'gulaal' and hundreds of dancers in the background. I felt that he may just give me this long silent expression and then ask me those 'hazaar' questions if he really needed to do that," recollects director Milan Luthria. "However to my pleasant surprise he burst out laughing. He just asked me if I was really serious to offer him a song like that because he was quite excited about doing it." The results can be seen on screen; what with Naseer getting into a quintessential 80s' South-Indian hero get-up and giving those naughty looks to Vidya that are quite close to the mannerisms that one had witnessed in the Jeetendra era. "Naseer said it was a dream come true for him to be lip synching to a Bappi Lahiri-sung number," smiles Milan who had earlier made Bappi sing for 'Mumbai Nagariya' [Taxi No. 9211]. "Till date, he jokes around by asking me whether I had ever thought in my wildest dream that one day I would direct him dancing to a song like 'Ooh La La' in Ramoji Film City. Well, I have an extended dream now to bring Naseer and Bappi together on stage in front of a live audience. It would be great to see them do their thing." For someone who is known for having a keen ear for music, whether it is his debut effort 'Kachche Dhaage' or the hit 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai', Milan says his latest 'The Dirty Picture' gave Vishal-Shekhar an immense opportunity to come up with an entertaining soundtrack. "'The Dirty Picture' is a combination of high quality drama and music," says Milan, "As the film is about a sizzling dancing star, there is a lot of potential to play with the choreography and songs. Let's acknowledge the fact that good music really helps in boosting a film's opening at the box office. We have made sure that while 'Ooh La La' is just the starting point, there are many more surprises one after the other in quick succession when the remaining songs unfold." Kangna as Krrish's supergirl!

chairs for this most awaited Rakesh Roshan's flick 'Krrish 3', Kangna Ranaut has bagged the movie.

Exciting buzz in the glittering town is that Kangna will play a Supergirl, India's first female sci-fi character, in the Hrithik Roshan starrer. Sources close to the actress said that she believes the role is going to be lot of fun and challenging and so she is looking forward to it.

For her role, the 'Fashion' famed beauty will take on rigorous training in martial arts.

Incidentally Kangna is said to be original choice of the filmmaker. According to sources, she had initially rejected the offer citing busy work schedules. But then luck favoured Roshans, since the shooting of Kangna's 'Dedh Ishqya' got postponed to next year and also Krrish 3's shooting was shifted to this December. So Kangna quite willingly accepted the movie when Roshans approached her again.

Well, it's truly an interesting progression for Ranaut who stepped into the industry by doing intense roles. In the process, earning high acclaims for her performances. After proving her calibre by even attempting rom-com (Tanu Weds Manu, Rascals), Kangna is all set to show her powers as a wonder woman.....

With Kangna around, Chirag is confident about 'Miley Na Miley Hum

When Chirag Paswan finalised 'Miley Naa Miley Hum' as his debut vehicle, one of the major challenges that came his way was to get a reputed leading lady alongside him. Due to the fact that he was a newcomer in the industry, it was of paramount importance to get a major actress give a nod of approval to star opposite him. No wonder, for Chirag it was a huge moment when Kangna Ranaut, who boasts of a National Award no less, agreed to give him company in this romantic entertainer.

"Kangna is a huge superstar and with her coming on board, we have a complete package that is required for a film belonging to this genre. I guess for a newcomer like me, the production house has ensured that all cushioning which is required to make a film safe has been made available," gushes Chirag who has now started reverse countdown for the arrival of his debut vehicle, "Moreover Sajid-Wajid have composed some fantastic music and that too has helped a big deal in creating enhanced visibility around the film."

As the film gets ready for release, Chirag is confident that 'Miley Naa Miley Hum' has turned out to be just an apt launch vehicle for him. "It is a full on 'masala' film with very good scope for romance, drama and comedy. We are on safe grounds," concludes Chirag in a positive tone.

Himesh Reshammiya joins hands with Akshay Kumar for Khiladi 786

Akshay Kumar and Himesh Reshammiya have joined hands to produce an action comedy, titled KHILADI 786 - MADE IN PUNJAB, which will release in Diwali 2012. The film will star Akshay Kumar in the title role and co-star Himesh Reshammiya, who will enact the role of a Gujarati named Mansukh, while Paresh Rawal will play Himesh's father Champaklal. The leading lady opposite Akshay is yet to be finalized.



There are two extremely pivotal roles in this action comedy, which, according to sources, will star two mature superstars. The film is directed by Rohit Shetty's assistant Ashish R. Mohan and has story and music by Himesh Reshammiya. Eros International will present the film in association with HR Musik and Hari Om Entertainment.

Shiney Ahija once again accused of sexual harassment.

Trouble and Shiney Ahuja, walk hand-in-hand. Yet again, Shiny lands himself in hot soup. The actor has been written off from Bollywood, ever since he was involved in a rape case. Now, the latest accusation he faces is of sexual harassment from actress Sayali Bhagat.

An upcoming horror flick Ghost has Sayali acting opposite Shiney Ahuja. The actress recently revealed that during the shooting of the film, Shiney used to make indecent passes at her. Buzz also has it that Shiney even pinched her butt. However, Sayali denies it.

“During an intimate scene, he (Shiney) took me to the makeup room and made me hold his hands and look into his eyes and feel the ‘warmth’. I chose to ignore,” Sayali Bhagat says in an interview.

It also happened that during a scene where Sayali teaches him to chop vegetables, Shiney forced her to feel up his arms n number of times. Not jus Sayali but the light-man too got frustrated and walked out. Even between shots, Shiny used to whisper in Sayali’s ear that they should hook up.

Sayali is now looking forward to file a police complaint against Shiney.

Saif Ali Khan the next nawab of Pataudi??

Saif Ali Khan, is all set to be the next nawab of Pataudi, declared his sister Saba Ali Khan.

Saba who manages all the religious and charitable endowments of the princely state put an end to all rumors about Saif not wanting to be the next nawab.

“After forty days of Abba’s demise, a simple pagdi ceremony will be held at Pataudi village (in Gurgaon), in which Saif will be declared the next nawab of Patuadi,” she said.

However, the date of the function is not yet set. “The date and time has not been finalised yet as it will be decided by Amma (actress Sharmila Tagore) 40 days after Abba’s demise,” she added.

Salman replaced by SRK in Bansali’s next!

Sanjay Leela Bhansali ambitious project ‘Bajirao Mastani’, all this while was being penned down keeping Salman Khan as Bajirao, in mind. However, after a long wait and with no response from the actor, Sanjay has now decided to rope in Sallu’s arch rival Shahrukh Khan.

Well, this is not the first time that such a thing is happening to this film. Earlier in 2003, the film was announced with Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai. However, once the couple split, Bhansali decided to rope in Kareena Kapoor, in the year 2005. But that didn’t work out too.

An industry source reveals, “After things couldn’t work out with Salman Khan, Sanjay was disheartened and didn’t know who he should approach for the role. Since it’s a big budget film, only a star can pull it off. A friend of Sanjay suggested he consider SRK.

He was quite kicked with the idea and immediately called up King Khan and offered him the role. The actor who is aware of the film and liked the subject asked him to give him a proper narration.”

The highlight of IIFA 2011 in Toronto on Friday was IIFA Rocks, a fashion-cum-musical show that saw ramp walks from Bollywood actresses like Sonakshi Sinha and Bipasha Basu and on-stage performances by Mallika Sherawat and Dia Mirza.

The show, co-hosted by Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar, also saw a scintillating appearance by Shahrukh Khan.

Amitabh Bachchan’s fake twitter account had posted: “T 538 Saw #RA1. What a WASTE. Even the worst of Abhishek’s like Drona were much better. May be SRK’s mid age crises.”

Big B fumed after reading this tweet and wrote on his account: “ATTENTION !!! Someone using my fake ID and writing rubbish ..My ID is @SrBachchan .. fake ID being disgustingly used is @ SrBachhann”

Further, Amitabh Bachchan clarified that he can never wish wrong for Shahrukh Khan: “Fake ID of mine being used to write opinions on Ra.One .. I have not even seen the film and shall always wish the best for ShahRukh”

We finally get to see the real angry side of the angry man

SRK to Deposit Rs 1 cr with the Bombay High Court before ‘Ra.One’ release

Just when everything seems to be at its height for the release of what it seems the most anticipated movie of the century there is another glitch in the process. Bombay High Court has found some prima facie evidence that there have been a few copyright infringements in the movie. The court has directed actor-producer Shah Rukh Khan to deposit Rs 1 crore with the court before going ahead with releasing his dream project.
“The defendants (Sharukh, his production house Red Chillies Entertainment and Eros Entertainment) are directed to deposit a sum of Rs one crore as pay-order to the court and then release the movie,” a division bench composed of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Roshan Dalvi said.
A petition was filed by television writer and producer Mr. Yash Patnaik. Apparently he is contending to be the originator of both the concept and content of ‘Ra.One’. Patnaik claims that he owns the original copyrights for the Red Chillies Entertainment production.
In addition the court also made it clear that if SRK and Red Chillies Entertainment failed to deposit the asked sum by tomorrow it will make an injunction operable against the movie’s release.
“It is the most unfortunate part of the film industry that people use others’ concepts and then don’t want to pay or give them credit,” the division bench commented. The final decision in the case however is still pending and the court plans to hear the arguments of the defenders in the due course.
The movie which stars Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal is scheduled to be released on the 26^th of October. Patanaik is pleading for a stay order on the film’s release until he is given all the required credits for the concept and content of ‘Ra.One’. And in case he is not given the right credits he has sought for a 10% profit margin in the profits the movie makes.
Senior advocate Ravi Kadam who is Patnaik’s lawyer claimed that the character played by Shah Rukh Khan, i.e. the superhero in ‘Ra.One’ very much resembles the one Patnaik conceptualized in 2006.
“The super-villain of Patnaik’s script was called ‘One’, which has been used by Shahrukh in the movie’s title,” Kadam added.
SRK’s lawyer senior advocate Virendra Tulzapurkar on the other hand argued that his client’s script, concept and content are completely different from that of Patnaik’s. Besides Patnaik cannot claim copyright on this script as he has used a team of experts to develop his concept.
The judges though postponed the hearing of the case to a later date did not help commenting that it seemed from the prima facie that there had been a copyright violation.

‘Student of the Year’ team on its way for an outdoor shoot

The team of Student of the Year is all set for its next schedule. The cast and crew are on the way for its outdoor shoot of the movie. Karan Johar, the director of the movie and the spear head of Dharma productions stated about this on his Twitter account.

Karan tweeted saying, “So on my way for the long outdoor of SOTY… Siddhart, Varun, Alia… and a full on young cast and crew!!! Will be the uncle on set!!”

With a young cast, the mammoth size experience and panache of Karan Johar, Student of the Year promises to be a young and energetic movie. This movie will showcase a new style statement to the youngistan of today.

Ra.One Movie Review

The wait is over. India’s most expensive film ever and the most extensive and creative marketing campaign ever seen there. Ra.One is Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s platform to play the quintessential superhero. The film is written and directed by Anubhav Sinha (Tum Bin, Dus) and has music by Vishal-Shekhar (featuring rap-star Akon). Shah Rukh Khan plays a computer game designer, called Shekhar Subramanium, who lives in London with his wife Sonia (Kareena Kapoor) and son Prateek (Armaan Verma). Prateek is a computer whiz, who is heavily into games and thinks his father is a coward in real life. He taunts him to make a brave game in which the villain never looses, however things go wrong when the game’s villain (Arjun Rampal as Ra.One) comes out of the game and into the real world to avenge losing to Prateek in the virtual game they played. The hero of the game is G.One and is made in the image of Shah Rukh. G.One is bought into the real world from the virtual in order to help save Prateek and the world from Ra.One.
What is evident about the film is that money was well spent in the graphics and special effects departments – Ra.One is glossy, has high production values and looks good. Conceptually it is modern in its vision, the film explores the virtual world and interactive computer generated games.
Some of the key action scenes were executed to international standards: the car chase sequence across London was thrilling, the debut fight between Ra.One and G.One at London’s Battersea power station was fun and the crumbling of Victoria Terminus station in Mumbai was amazing.
From an acting perspective Arjun Rampal as Ra.One was menacing! Kareena was good as the leading lady – the negative streak of her character was great! But I’m afraid that’s where it ends for me…
Shah Rukh plays a south Indian character who is geeky in nature, which leads to him acting over-the-top while he doesn’t even manage to keep his accent consistent. Furthermore, as G.One he acts more like Rajnikanth’s ‘Chitti’ character from Robot, but G.One is clearly not a robot and therefore presents us with nothing new! Additionally, the much talked about train sequence was not as good as the one in Robot for me and the special appearance by Rajnikanth as Chitti will attract applause, but is wasted here.
Script-wise the superhero is an established genre in Hollywood and there are direct influences taken from a number of Hollywood superhero films, which is fine if that’s the source material you’re working from, but the makers were unable to blend that with the Bollywood masala formula – the comic scenes, the romantic-track, the loud background score, the lip-synched songs and even the Ramayan backdrop, just don’t gel well together. Moreover, it takes around 45 minutes for the film to really get going, which sadly includes all the distractions mentioned above.
So, will you enjoy Ra.One? Well, kids clearly seemed to be enjoying it in the showing I was in and Shah Rukh has said that he partly made Ra.One for his children, so box ticked there, young ones will love it!
If we’re talking about the ordinary cine-goers then I can’t see the Dabangg and Ghajini crowds really relating to this or enjoying it as much. As for the western audiences, with the plethora of Hollywood superhero films on offer and an expectation to see Shah Rukh films for what they are – romantic Bollywood sagas, this film doesn’t even offer a middle-ground between the two genres.
That leaves the hardcore Shah Rukh fan base, to whom I say: remember how Asoka was meant to be Shah Rukh Khan’s Lagaan and Veer was Salman Khan’s attempt at period drama, both failed miserably and for me Ra.One from a script and film perspective fails and lets down both his fans and those of us interested to see Bollywood’s take on the superhero genre.
Anubhav Sinha’s direction is competent, but given that he wrote the script and screenplay, he lets his own film down. Music wise, hats off to the work Akon did, but bar that it isn’t anything amazing. At 160 minutes and with Martin Walsh as one of the editors (supposedly editor of Prince of Persia also), he clearly could have done with more trimming in order to keep the film at an international pace.
Ra.One is an improvement on what we’ve seen in Bollywood from a special effects perspective. Shah Rukh has set a new benchmark for how to market and present Hindi films and it will most likely make money at the box office. Sadly, poor characterization, a weak script and the inability to blend Bollywood style with the superhero genre let Ra.One down. You can spend as much money as you want, but if your script is poor, then you will always fail – once again, this is what’s happened here.
For me it’s a one time watch if you’re curious, best saved for DVD and will be quickly forgotten. A massive opportunity gone to waste!

NEW DELHI, Oct. 26 -- He has left no stone unturned in promoting his ambitious project, RA.One, and now that judgment day has arrived, actor Shah Rukh Khan, 45, is hoping for the best.
"Too much has been made of RA.One promotion. I've got a product and I got to inform the public about it. One has to realise it is a special dream film and a mix of all genres together. I did not make a R150 crore film just like that. It's an emotional experience," says SRK. "I don't think if I'll ever be able to make a film like this again...I was watching it and I got tears in my eyes. Hopefully, it'll be liked by the public. I hope I'm able to live up to the trust of everyone otherwise they'll lynch me," he adds in his signature witty style.

Tron/Tron:Legacy
Apart from similarities of costume in the Tron franchise with those in RA.One, SRK's film plot seems a total reverse of the Tron films. While in those films, the protagonist gets sucked in virtual reality, in RA.One, the characters enter the real world from a game.
Terminator:Judgment Day
A 'reforming' scene in the movie suggests a straight lift from this Hollywood blockbuster. SRK doesn't deny the same. "The scene, in a way, is definitely inspired from T2. The film actually has a lot of take off from that because it was the best I saw," he says.
Spider-Man
Three scenes in RA.One trailer -one where G.One is sitting near a flagpost in a certain posture, other where his back from a top building and third, where he uses his power are quite similar to those of Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2.

The car blowing scenes seen in RA.One resemble the ones in GI Joe and SRK doesn't shy away from accepting the same.
Batman Begins
In the second poster of RA.One, SRK is carrying Kareena Kapoor in his arms. The scene bears a stark resemblance to that of Christia Bale-Katie Holme starrer, Batman Begins.
Superman
'The Man of Steel''s wrinkle-free skin, blue eyes and super-breath can be easily noticed in SRK's character, G.One. "I wanted the superhero to be different so we gave him no wrinkles and blue eyes to stand out," SRK says.
Iron Man
One can't help but notice similarities in the Hertz Advanced Resonance Transmitter (HART) in G.One's costume and the arc reactor in Iron Man. Then, there's the entry sequence of both the superheroes which looks exactly the same. But, SRK dismisses them. "When I saw Iron Man, I was initially scared that it'll be compared to it but honestly the film was written five years ago," Shah Rukh says.

Pritam Dhoom Once Again

it is really a tough time for Bollywood music directors as there are so many movies coming up in late 2011 and early 2012. Most of the composers are already loaded with too much work and that is creating problems for them to get their music out on time. Pritam is one of the most successful music composers in recent times and he has been working on lot of projects at the moment. However, he has decided that he will work only on Dhoom 3 for Yash Raj Films. 
Earlier, Pritam was going to compose the music for Dhoom 3 and another Yash Raj Films movie called Ek Tha Tiger which stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. However, too many projects at one time is driving Pritam crazy and therefore Pritam decided to step up and requested Aditya Chopra to excuse him on this project. Pritam is already loaded with offers at the moment and he is composing music for Players, Tezz, Barfee, Race 2, Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai 2, Jannat 2 and now Dhoom 3.
Pritam said that working for two Yash Raj Films is really a great thing but working on so many projects simultaneously is not a good thing because it would hamper the quality of the songs. Aditya Chopra has decided that he would give the Ek Tha Tiger to Sohail Sen who recently composed music for Yash Raj Films’ Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. However, Aditya Chopra requested Pritam to go for Dhoom 3 because all the earlier parts of Dhoom were composed by Pritam so it would make more sense if Pritam continues composing music for the Dhoom series. Pritam will now work on the Dhoom 3 project and hopefully will come up with some groovy numbers that can make people go Dhoom once again.

Jagjit Singh – A huge loss

Jagjit Singh’s popularity knew not the bound of a country, race or religion. The maestro enthralled masses with his heart rending ghazals globally. Condolences started pouring in from all over the world the moment the great ghazal king passed away. Aged 70 Jagjit Singh passed away in Mumbai today after suffering from brain haemorrhage.

Other greats like Pandit Jasraj deeply mourned the huge loss today. Expressing great grief over the sudden demise of the ghazal maestro Pandit Jasraj commented, “The world has suffered great losses this year -stalwarts of music, first Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and now the sudden demise of my best musical friend and brother Padma Bhushan Jagjit Singh.” The great Indian musician further added that he is speechless at the turn of events today and that the fans and the music community have lost a great composer today.
Jagjit Singh along with his wife Chitra Singh who also happened to be an eminent ghazal singer formed one of the most successful Indian musical duos. His music was not just limited to Bollywood music. In fact there are a multitude of languages that he sang in. Punjabi, Bengali,Nepali, Sindhi, Gujrati,  Hindi and Urdu are some of the languages that he performed in. For being such an asset to his motherland Jagjit Singh was also awarded with the third highest civilian honour in our country, i.e. the Padma Bhushan.
The maestro gets all the credit for reviving Ghazals in our country. The best part being he mixed it so well with the mass media of today that the common started falling more and more for ghazals. Decades of performance certainly led to the popularization of ghazals in our country. He will certainly be missed by the music community and fans all over the world. Rest in Peace the King of Ghazals.
